Sorry for letting chapter 13 get so long, but I was away on vacation this past week. I don't have enough confidence in my netbook ("baby laptop" - which I brought along with me on vacation) to start a new chapter. The netbook is very temperamental and limited when dealing with various programs, unlike my regular home computer.

Sad news to report.... Tom Morrisroe passed away on March 26, due to a brain tumor. On a personal level, "Tommy" was one of the first kids I ever played with, when I was no more than about 3 years old. He lived just a few doors up from me on 48th St. When I saw him at the reunion, I thought he looked great. I'm glad he made it to the reunion. May he rest in peace.

Well, John, for starters, there was Kingston's Bar, on the SW corner of 47th Avenue and 48th St. There was Kelleher's next to or near Hughes Funeral Home. And then there was the Broadstone Bar, across the street from the 43rd St. playground on Greenpoint. Also, there was a bar on Laurel Hill Blvd between 45th and 46th St., but I have no idea what the name of it was. I know there were a lot more, but I'll stop there. Maybe one or two persons out of the 123 people who visited this website so far today could chime in and add to the collection. And don't forget about bars "across the Boulevard."

Hey, c'mon now, let's give Sunnyside / Woodside a little credit. The Irish Gay Society of NYC (or some such title) was barred from participating in the big St. Patrick's Day parade in Manhattan. So, instead, they now march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Sunnyside, that goes down Skillman Avenue. Can you even fathom that happening in 1962? I know I can't.

So Maureen, do you think of yourself as an Alaskan now? I know you'll always be a Woodside girl at heart but I wonder how long one has to live somewhere to actually think of themselves as being from there. Everytime someone asks me if I'm from NJ I must make some sort of a face because I always wind up saying something like - no I live in NJ but I'm from NY. Just curious!

Well, I've lived up here in the 49th State for about 20 years, and I guess I do consider myself an Alaskan. Though when I lived in New England from 1965-1990, I guess I considered myself a New Englander!!! But, as you noted, at heart I'll always be a NYC girl - born in Manhattan and raised in Sunnyside (first on 39th Street, and then on 40th Street - St. Raphael's Parish). Always remember paying that extra quarter for out-of-parish tuition at STS - I remember my Mom sending us off to school on Fridays with 75cents each for our tuition, and then eventually, I think, it went up to a dollar. An education for 75 cents a week!!!!! Those were the days!

They are like the Energizer Bunny-they just keep going! Good stuff all around though. Feel like a cruise director since they ask every mornng, " What are we doing today?" Been to a Broadway play, Fire Island, movies twice, Jones Beach, Tobay Beach, an amusement park in Bayville, many times to the driving range and I am too tired to remember any more. John, overheard some one say this today: "Plunk your magic twanger, Froggie". Not many knew what she was talking about. I remembered though. It is from another kid show from the 50's. Just loved Chuck McCann doing Dondi, Dick Tracy & Orphan Annie from the Sunday funnies. Kathy, I am also a happy New Yorker(Massapequa Park) but do spend some time in Greensboro, NC. Went to a Carolina Hurricane game in Raleigh and met a fellow STS 60 grad. I do recall Srs Hyacinth & Jeanette. Bill, met Larry Lembo at the driving range. Do you remember that name? Hey, got the morning in at the driving range at SUNY F'dale but it was slow. Rainy from 11 AM on. I live north of Sunrise Hwy in Massapequa Park and should be fine as far as water levels. What heavy rains & wind can do remains to be seen. Was down in Greensboro, NC, and my feet felt some vibrations on the floor and as did my hands on the table top. Found out a few minutes later that it was an earthquake; first thought was some one using heavy equipment outside. Hope all are safe and dry till Irene goes away.

Hi all... Hope you all survived Irene and are enjoying sun today. We were fine here. Tara lives bay/south shore LI & Irene gushed into their den; took 3 days to bail out. They had moved all the electronics (computer/tv/stereo, etc) upstairs before they left the house. They had elevated the couches up on wood & cinder blocks but NG cause water came up to one's thighs. But they got electricity restored 3 days later. Some folks are still in the dark out there and from watching the TV we know that New Jersey and Vermont are in awful shape. If that rain were snow we'd be in the house for months.

Good to hear that everything went well for the 61 reunion. I would have liked to attend, but my wife and I booked a bus tour of Michigan (Mackinac Island) - which was fantastic - months and months ago and, Murphy's law, it conflicted with the STS61 reunion. If anyone reading this is thinking of trying to get a STS62 reunion off the ground, I'll be glad to assist in any way I can. Kudos to John Kaufmann! I know what it takes to organize one of these reunions. The biggest "chore", so to speak, is finding old classmates. In some cases, it really does come down to detective work. I had one of the best detectives I could ask for: Diane Coyle Angelini. I think if she put her mind to it, she could probably find Jimmy Hoffa. LOL

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Pam. Now just don't go out shoveling snow, you hear? LOL Do you believe this crappy weather? We're supposed to get between 1 and 3 inches of wet snow here on Saturday, but up your way, and especially on over into north Jersey, a few places may approach a foot. "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, not a white Halloween, for Cripe's sake!". What a rotten year 2011 has been for weather. It's been the wettest year on record here in south central PA, although July was so hot and dry, the farmer who plants corn behind my house lost his crop this year due to the July drought. Then we had the floods of September. I had 17 inches of water in my basement. And now snow on Halloween. Jeez!
